RHS Quiz Bowl Champions Set Phasers to Win
On May 27th, seventeen of Russellville High School's finest will be heading to New Orleans to compete in Nationals. "Nationals for what?", you may ask yourself. Well, Nationals for Quiz Bowl. If you are unfamiliar, quiz bowl is a game in which two teams compete head-to-head to answer questions from all areas of knowledge including history, literature, science, fine arts, current events, sports, and popular culture. So, it's like trivia night on steroids.
Philip Takach, Brant Collins, Tyler Tracy, Jeremy Collins, Chris Schaubroeck, Collin Davis, Hailey Smith, Regan Freeman, Olivia Draughon, Nathan Judd, Nihal Anwar, Jacob Poirier, Yoshio Yamashita, Jason Zhang, Cameron Steed, Mariah Ferguson, and Jasmine Gonzalez are the current (and back to back) 6A State Champions, as well as the 6A West Region Champions. It's an understatement to say this kids are smart.
Currently, they are raising funds for their championship rings so they can commemorate their state win. The amount totals around $3,000, and that would make sure each student and all coaches receive a ring, without having to pay out of their own pocket. And if they can give Russellville a State Champions title, I saw we can come up with those funds to show how proud we are of them.
You can also donate by sending a check made payable to Quiz Bowl Boosters and mailed to PO Box 477, Russellville, AR 72811. They are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations so donations are tax deductible.
Last year the RJHS Quiz Bowl team played in the Nationals tournament. RSD Quiz Bowl program encompasses students in 5th - 12th grade and the Quiz Bowl Boosters of Russellville Schools supports the whole quiz bowl program.
